'Recyclable' wedding dress for the super-green
How green are you? Do you recycle, compost and carry a cloth shopping bag? Well, how about reusing your wedding dress beyond its big debut?
Many brides may balk at the idea of making their wedding dress a staple of their formal wardrobe, but Hanna Hartnell's new collection of reversible dresses aims to reach practical, recession-minded women who may think, "Why not?"
Each of Hartnell's Double Dare wedding dress is lined with colored silk and can be turned inside-out to extend its useful lifespan.
There are 90 colors and four designs to choose from, and a well-placed slit on the side offers a sly preview of the dress' secret double identity.
In keeping with the eco-friendly ethos behind the gowns, Hartnell says she uses sustainable silk processed by clean technology.
Once you start to think about it, a reusable wedding dress seems to evoke endless possibilities: a quick-change number for later in the reception, a formal charity ball, the office Christmas party.
You could even wear it to someone else's wedding. Just make sure you have the white side turned inwards.
